The Sanriku coast, where the ports of Miyagi Prefecture are located, is famous as one of the three major fishing grounds in the world, along with the waters off Norway and Canada, because of its stable and excellent fishing grounds. In addition to the tide line where the Oyashio (cold current) and Kuroshio (warm current) collide, the rias coastline and many islands along the Sanriku coast provide a perfect home for fish, and a wide variety of seafood can be landed.
Miyagi Prefecture is also home to the lush green mountains of the Ou Mountains, known as the "backbone of Tohoku. The mineral-rich subsoil water constantly flows into the sea through rivers, producing seafood of the highest quality.
